Creating radiant, glowing, youthful-looking skin can best be accomplished by focusing on what's inside, not by covering up the skin with artificial colors that try to paint a new face on the outside. But which superfoods, exactly, are best for supporting healthy skin in the first place?

In this article, I reveal the five best superfoods and health supplements I know of for creating youthful-looking skin with the power of nutrition. All of these supplements are available right now. Below, I'll tell you how and where to get them.

Superfood #1: Astaxanthin

What's astaxanthin, you ask? It's a deep-red microalgae that's a fat-soluble antioxidant. That means it can be delivered to the fat molecules of your body, and that includes your skin, of course, which is primarily made of fat and water (by weight).

Astaxanthin is one of my top nutrients of all time. It even protects the skin from sunburn, eliminating the need to use toxic sunscreen lotions. In addition, astaxanthin protects the brain from Alzheimer's disease, the eyes from UV light damage and the entire nervous system from oxidative damage.

You can get astaxanthin at www.Nutrex-Hawaii.com or www.Vitacost.com

Read my article on astaxanthin here: http://www.naturalnews.com/023177.html

The best way to take astaxanthin is with a dietary source of healthy fats (see below). That's because astaxanthin binds to fats during digestion and is carried with those fats throughout your body where it protects organs and cells from free radical damage. There is probably no stronger fat-soluble antioxidant in the world than astaxanthin.

Superfood #2: Ocean-Derived Omega-3 Oils

As hinted above, the best way to take astaxanthin is with high-quality omega-3 oils. Ocean-derived omega-3 oils are legendary for their ability to support the body's healthy response to inflammation, meaning that many people are finding marine omega-3s to be a safer, more natural and far more affordable alternative to dangerous NSAIDS and prescription anti-inflammatory drugs (such as Vioxx, which is well known for doubling the risk of heart attacks and stroke)*.

While there are lots of sources of omega-3 oils to choose from, the ocean-derived omega-3s are far more potent than plant-derived omega-3s such as flaxseed oil or chia seeds. The two best omega-3 products I know of are Moxxor, made from green-lipped mussel oil, and LivingFuel Super Essentials, made from sardines and anchovies (wildcrafted, not farmed).

NaturalNews has no financial relationship with Living Fuel. Its Super Essentials product, which combines a small amount of astaxanthin with fish oils, is available here: www.LivingFuel.com

NaturalNews is a distributor of Moxxor, and over 1,000 NaturalNews readers have now joined in distributing Moxxor's green-lipped mussel oil, which is grown in eco-friendly aquaculture farms off the coast of New Zealand. The mussels feed on marine phytoplanktonand are completely free of heavy metals, pesticides, PCBs and other chemicals. The product can be purchased here:
https://www.mymoxxor.com/ProductListPage.aspx?ID=naturalnews

Or you can get the product at a discount by joining the NaturalNews Moxxor team, explained here:http://www.naturalnews.com/MoxorDemoNN.asp

Marine omega-3 oils not only support healthy skin, they also support and enhance the health of the nervous system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system and many other functions of the human body, including moods and balanced brain function.

Superfood #3: Raw foods and fresh juice

Raw vegetable juice does wonders for healthy skin. There's something about daily juicing that just brings out the most radiant, youthful-looking skin in people.

Live foods, of course, support living, vibrant skin. Dead foods cause skin to age rapidly, and eating fried foods or animal products may cause your skin to break out with acne, eczema or various rashes. Consuming raw vegetable juice on a daily basis is a powerful way to support healthy skin. You'll notice the different in 30 days or less!

Read my article on juicing to learn which juicer I recommend, and what recipe to start with: http://www.naturalnews.com/024586.html

Or learn about "Juice Feasting" at www.JuiceFeasting.com

Superfood #4: Shellfish, Pumpkin Seeds and Zinc

Zinc is an essential nutrient for skin repair and injury repair (it's also really important for prostate health). If you're deficient in zinc (and probably 70% or more of Americans are), your skin will never look as good as it could. Zinc gives your cells the ability to properly construct and maintain their physical integrity, and it speeds the regeneration of new skin following injuries such as scrapes, scratches or cuts.

Shellfish and pumpkin seeds are good natural sources of zinc. It can also be taken as a nutritional supplement. A good low-cost source is VitaCost at:
http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Zinc-Gluconate-Picolinate

A high-end source is Wellness Resources' "Strengthener Plus," which also happens to contain MSM, a sulfur derivative that belongs near the top of anyone's list of skin-supporting nutritional supplements. I highly recommend Wellness Resources products, as the company was founded by Health Freedom champion Byron Richards. Here's the product page:
http://www.wellnessresources.com/products/strengthener_plus.php

I do not have financial relationships with either of these companies.

Superfood #5: Clean Water

Okay, I know water doesn't technically count as a superfood, but perhaps it should! Adequate hydration is essential for optimum skin health. Far too many consumers are chronically dehydrated, and as a result they suffer systemic dehydration of their skin, which makes it look older, more wrinkled and less smooth.

Drinking adequate water is crucial for supporting your skin health, but you've got to drink clean water to accomplish this, not tap water.

The cleanest water, of course, is natural spring water. If you're lucky enough to live near a spring, bottle up your drinking water from it (test it for contamination first, of course), and consume that.

Don't buy bottled water as it creates a mountain of waste (plastic bottles). Furthermore, the Bisphenol-A in the plastic bottles has been proven so toxic that it was recently banned from baby bottles in Canada.

So what's the next best choice for your drinking water? Bottle your own. Get yourself an Aquasana water filter, which is, in my view, the No. 1 consumer water filter on the market today. NaturalNews is an affiliate of Aquasana, so your purchase helps support our network. To pay you back, we negotiated a discount for NaturalNews readers on Aquasana products, including the countertop unit, under-the-sink unit, and the highly-recommended shower filter unit which I personally take with me everywhere I travel (it protects you from the toxic chlorine in public water supplies).

Get your Aquasana products at a discount here:
http://www.aquasanaaffiliates.com/b.asp?id=4115

Nutrition is the key to healthy skin

In summary, nutrition and hydration are the keys to healthy skin. Consume omega-3 supplements on a regular basis, take astaxanthin, drink plenty of clean water, and drink fresh juice on a regular basis. Also be sure to take in plenty of trace minerals through sources likesea salt. Healthy salt allows your skin and body to hold on to water, lubricating joints, boosting nervous system function and smoothing out the skin. Good sources for healthy see salt are www.MountainRoseHerbs.com or www.TransitionNutrition.com

The Benefits of Astaxantin

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 150px; height: 119px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_L189s4fMVR4/Sba9PUP4L9I/AAAAAAAAAD0/SrXo28GGLVo/s400/EditorsChoice-BestProduct.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311640881361072082" />

Astaxanthin: The Little-Known Miracle Nutrient for Inflammation, Anti-Aging, Athletic Endurance and More

by: Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, NaturalNews Editor

(NaturalNews) Every once in a very great while, I discover a natural medicine so astonishing that I feel compelled to share it with you. The verb "discover" is actually not to my credit, by the way; Mother Nature created this natural medicine eons ago, and it's been present in trace amounts in aquatic ecosystems for over a billion years. In this article, I'm going to reveal the name of this natural medicine, what health benefits it provides to us, and how to get some right now. But first, before revealing the name, I want to share some of the numerous health benefits with you so you get the full picture of just how significant this substance can be in enhancing your health. As always, I have absolutely no financial ties to this product, and I earn nothing if you choose to purchase it. I do, however, buy and consume this product myself on a regular basis, as you'll see below.

Did you ever notice how the drug companies get excited when they find a drug that just slightly alters the risk of a single disease? I remember hearing all the hype about a particular cancer drug made by Big Pharma. It was called a "miracle" drug that needed to be fast-tracked so it could start saving lives. When I looked at the research, however, it only turned out to prevent cancer in one woman out of two hundred (a 0.5% reduction in the risk of breast cancer). Gee, that's not much get excited about. And yet they called it a "miracle" drug!

Well imagine if there were a natural substance that operated at many different biochemical levels at once, providing all the following health benefits (yes, from a single source!):

• Reduces proliferation of breast cancer tumor cells by 40%
• Protects the brain from dementia and Alzheimer's
• Greatly reduces inflammation and joint pain
• Reduces oxidative damage to your DNA by 40% (even at low doses)
• Greatly increases endurance, muscle recovery and workout performance
• Reduces the risk of cancer
• Reduces blood sugar level in diabetics and prediabetics
• Improves fertility while decreasing the rate of stillborn births
• Promotes cardiovascular health, reduces C-Reactive Proteins (CRP)
• Reduces or eliminates carpal tunnel syndrome
• Boosts immune function and helps the body resist infections
• Protects the stomach from ulcers and invasive bacteria
• Protects the kidneys from damage due to high blood sugar
• Causes cancer cells to commit suicide (apoptosis)
• Greatly improves sperm quality, motility, and sperm count
• Prevents asthma by normalizing histamine levels
• Protects the body from highly oxidative foods like fried foods

In addition, I've found that this natural medicine:

• Greatly protects eye health, reduces cataracts and prevents UV damage to the eyes

• Makes skin look younger and functions as a natural internal sunscreen that prevents DNA damage and sunburn

• Protects the body from the dangerous oxidizing effects of Vioxx and COX-2 inhibitors, meaning that is can actually reduce the harmful side effects and deaths caused by other anti-inflammatory pharmaceuticals

Now, if all that is really true -- and I'll show you in a minute that it is true -- that would make this one of the most miraculous medicines ever discovered by modern science, wouldn't it? For any one substance to prevent and treat so many different diseases -- and to protect the human body in so many different ways -- is nothing short of truly miraculous. So why isn't this nutrient front-page news?

The answer, of course, is because it can't be patented. This natural substance (which I will reveal below) is created by microalgae, so it's not something that was invented by a drug company scientist for patenting purposes. And the sad fact of the matter is that drug companies aren't interested in medicines that can't be patented, no matter how helpful or miraculous they may really be.

And yes, all the health benefits I've described for this supplement are, indeed, quite true. And they're backed by clinical trials and research papers that are fascinating in what they contain, and yet have never been picked up by the mainstream media. In other words, this nutrient may be the most powerful natural medicine you've never heard about!

Maybe you have heard about it already, but here's something else...
It's possible, of course, that you have heard about it. Especially if you've been reading NaturalNews for some time (I've mentioned it on this website before). But until recently, I never fully understood the health benefits of taking larger doses of the nutrient.

Previously, I was only taking 2mg - 4mg per day. But for a while now, I've been taking 16mg per day (400% more than before), and I've discovered something truly astounding: The health benefits of this natural medicine keep increasing as the dose increases (to a limit, of course). I've found that 16mg a day is the ideal dosage for me to experience maximum benefits from this supplement... benefits that include outstanding athletic performance, a significant reduction in muscle soreness and joint pain, radical improvements in resistance to UV sun exposure, stabilized blood sugar and many more.

So what is this mystery nutrient? It's astaxanthin, a deep red-colored phytonutrient synthesized by microalgae called Haematococcus. It's grown in fresh water using sophisticated techniques that encourage the algae to grow its own powerful medicines that protect it from oxidation, UV radiation and other environmental stresses. When harvested from the algae and concentrated into a liquid, astaxanthin becomes the most powerful antioxidant known in the natural world, demonstrating 550 times the antioxidant power of Vitamin E, for example. (I reveal my No. 1 recommended source and how to get astaxanthin at a discount, below...)

Now why is antioxidant power important? Think about it: Much of what goes on during the aging of the human body is due to oxidation. Every time you breathe, you're inhaling some oxygen, right? That oxygen reacts with your cells to create energy, but the byproduct of that energy is the creation of free radicals. These free radicals cause DNA damage, nerve cell damage, accelerated aging of internal organs and more.

The way to stop those free radicals is with antioxidants, which bind to them, neutralizing their damaging effects. Astaxanthin, it turns out, is so good at halting free radicals that it seems to confer miracle-class health benefits to the human body... benefits that might be described as "anti-aging" or "reversing disease."

Right to the muscles and tissues that need them
It gets even better: Unlike most antioxidants, astaxanthin is fat-soluble, meaning it gets carried by fat molecules directly to tissues and organs in your body where it can do the most good, like your retina, your brain, your breast tissue, prostate tissue, and skeletal muscles. You know what makes the flesh of salmon pink? Astaxanthin. And guess what gives salmon the seemingly superhuman ability to achieve marathon swimming feats, leaping up waterfalls against the current? Astaxanthin, of course. Without astaxanthin, salmon are mere average performers, and their survival rate drops to less than one in five. But with astaxanthin, they become superstars of the aquatic world, performing feats of physical strength and endurance that, in proportion, dwarf the greatest achievements of the world's top human athletes. (And their survival rate on salmon farms leaps from 17% to an astonishing 98%!)

You see, when astaxanthin is present in muscles and other tissues, it prevents oxidation right where it's needed: Right at the site of stress or potential oxidation. Ever notice how you breathe more air when you're exercising? That's more oxygen you're pumping through your tissues, and more oxygen means more oxidation. So the more you exercise, the more you need powerful antioxidants like astaxanthin. This helps explain why some athletes who work out hard but don't supplement with superfoods and antioxidants seem to age faster than everyone else. Exercising without antioxidants is like putting yourself on an aging acceleration program!

The fact that astaxanthin goes right to the muscles gives it the ability to protect muscles from all sorts of degenerative conditions. A horse suffering from a severe muscle conditions called rhabdomyolysis, for example (which can also be caused by statin drugs), was given 30mg of astaxanthin a day. In merely a few weeks, he was 100% symptom free and running again! (The owners were no doubt astonished.)

In fact, astaxanthin has been used in all kinds of ways to enhance the health of animals. In animal tests, it has been shown to:

• Greatly increase the longevity and survival rate of salmon and chickens
• Increase egg production by a whopping 300% in salmon
• Significantly lower salmonella infections in chickens
• Reduced infections by increasing immune resistance in every animal it's been tested with
• Accelerated the growth of farmed salmon by 600%! (Seems impossible, but it's true...)

The animals who have been fed a small amount of astaxanthin in their diet, it seems, experience phenomenal health benefits. Every type of animal given astaxanthin lives longer, grows faster, exhibits greater fertility and shows much stronger immune system function. Do these sound like benefits you'd like to experience, too?

To view the complete article, please click on this link.

Nopal Powder Certificate of Analysis

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_L189s4fMVR4/SBtD8aYywZI/AAAAAAAAAB4/ddlxYNRWKmU/s400/Nopal+CofA.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195821300256522642" />

Aloe Vera and Blueberry Certificate of Analysis

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_L189s4fMVR4/RrjMxDBo4GI/AAAAAAAAABc/7dlA3d5dHUY/s400/AVB+CofA.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096048121367552098" />

Aloe Vera and Blueberry Certificate of Analysis. They've stepped up with a $100 million R&D center in Shanghai.

Such research should lend additional credibility to so-called alternative medicine (and it this case, Eastern medicine) and its ability to treat maladies. It could result in such treatments becoming more available and offered at lower prices.

But, as is being discovered with the organic movement, multinational corporate involvement isn't necessarily a good thing. Companies like Novartis could alter harvesting practices and the areas where these indigenous products are grown.

Big Pharma involved in alternative medicine? Sounds interesting.

However, the informed consumer already knows how effective the products of nature can be in aiding wellness. That's why I'm proud that Good Cause Wellness products contain so many natural ingredients and have contributed to the wellness of so many people.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://goodcausewellness.blogspot.com/2006/11/good-news-bad-news-not-sure.html' title='Good News? For fish, the downside is the risks of ingesting toxic substances when you're eating your fish.

The health benefits of fish are well researched and documented. Because fish are high in omega-3 fatty oils, eating fish can reduce chances of heart attacks and the overall risk of death.

Want to get the same benefits of fish without the worry about mercury levels or other toxic substances?

Try chia seed.

Chia Seeds have the highest known whole-food source of Omega 3 acids. These acids promote cardiovascular and mental health and benefit many body functions. Chia is also a great natural source of antioxidants, including chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, myricetin, quercetin and flavonols.

Go to
Chia Seed
to order a 1.5 pound bag of chia for just $14.49. I've tried different combinations of diets, drinks and foods, but nothing seemed to help much. A good nap might work, but that's usually not an option.

When I started researching products for our new company, I read about Organic Nopal and started taking a capsule daily. The difference in my afternoon energy level is amazing. I've kept the same diet, sleep and exercise schedules, but I now get through the afternoons without a lull.

Nopal is an amazing nutrient. It's abundant here in the desert, where it's called prickly pear cactus. Research (and my personal experience) indicates in works to lower blood sugar, reduce cholesterol and provide essential amino acids. Some combination of these elements work magic for my afternoons.

I've sourced the highest quality Nopal for Good Cause Wellness to sell. Our Nopal Powder Capsules contain organic, freeze-dried Nopal powder and nothing else. No preservatives are added. It's Kosher-certified, preservative-free and contains no starch, sugar, corn, soy, wheat or dairy products.

If you want to read more about this amazing, natural product, here's the link to our website:
Organic Nopal Powder Capsules

New Product: Organic Granola with Chia Seed

When you look at the ingredients and nutritional profile of our new Organic Granola, it's remarkable what's included in this tasty product.

And, it's just as remarkable what is not in our granola.

Let's start with what's not in Good Cause Wellness 100% Organic Granola.

Sugar. Specifically, white table sugar. There's none in our granola. In fact, the only added sweetener is organic agave nectar. It's an ideal sweetener because of its low glycemic properties.

Now, let me tell you what is in our granola.

Chia seed is considered to be nature's perfect food. In fact, ours is the only organic granola with chia seed and agave nectar. Also in the granola are almonds, walnuts and pumpkin seeds which provide a variety of antioxidant benefits and essential fatty acids.

There are two varieties:

Goji and Blueberry Mix Goji berries have a wide range of anti-aging benefits from energy enhancement to cardiovascular protection. Blueberries are recognized as a nutritional superfood. The cherries are rich in antioxidants and have a wide range of health benefits from preventing heart disease and cancer to improved bone health. Cherries are high in potassium and vitamins C and B. Take advantage of our low shipping (only $4.50 per order, regardless of size) and order a pound or two.

Anti-Aging

I'm guessing not many of you read Vitamin Retailer on a regular, or irregular basis. Access to this publication is but one of the many lavish perks of operating an online retailer of supplements.

The latest issue arrived yesterday with a cover announcing "Anti-Aging: A Growing Category." Maybe that news is just reaching the mainstream, but it's not news to health conscious, middle-age baby boomers like me.

The contemplation of middle-age was a catalyst for starting Good Cause Wellness. In fact, one of the first products we developed was created specifically to help fight the effects of middle age. Our Antioxidant Defense System Purple drink mix is a great tasting, superior blend of nutrients of 19 fruit and vegetables. The formulation is designed specifically to strengthen your body's anti-aging defense system. For more info on this product, here's the link:
Anitoxidant Defense System Purple

Like all the products we've developed, ADS Purple tastes great and is very easy to incorporate into your daily routine. I'm aware of the many benefits of supplements, but if it's a hassle to use and tastes awful, I'm not going to use it.
